Why not try Veganuary this January?
Veganuary is a charity inspiring people to try veganism for January and throughout the rest of the year. It has become exponentially popular very quickly. There were 3,300 participants at launch year in 2014; and 2018 was a record-breaking year with 168,500 participants !
Here are a few stats about the participation and results in 2018:
Permaculture Journeys specialises in veganic permaculture and we acknowledge the benefit of veganism not only for the animals but also on the environment, as well as for our health.
Feel free to read more about veganism and veganic permaculture in our Permaculture and Sustainability section.
Of course, we don’t support industrial growing practices and the vegan staples can also be detrimental to the environmental if grown by conventional agriculture. But in comparable practices, a vegan diet is more efficient than an omnivore diet in terms of land and water usage.
If you decide to give a go at Veganuary, we encourage you to remain mindful of the foods you buy. Try to select produce that is:
- Grown locally (i.e. at with the lowest food miles)
- From your local farmers’ market if you can
- And ideally, unprocessed and unpackaged.
This way you can be sure to make the best choices for the animals, your health and the environment.
